Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company, of Lafayette Hill, PA, and Spring Mill Fire Company, of Conshohocken, PA, are always looking to add new members to our team. Regardless of experience or interests, we have multiple positions that vary in involvement and skill-set.

Firefighter:

A firefighter is extensively trained in fire/rescue and works to extinguish fires to protect lives, property, and the environment. Firefighters also perform various types of rescues like vehicle, industrial and elevator rescues. All firefighters are required to complete the necessary background checks and training courses to ensure the safety of themselves and the community. The training a firefighter will receive is accredited by state and national training organizations.

Fire Police Officer:

Fire Police Officers are an important part of a squad’s emergency response as they work to minimize danger through traffic control at fire scenes, vehicle accidents, and more, allowing firefighters to better do their jobs. They receive special training and work closely with local police departments to reduce interference with emergency response, and to protect bystanders at emergency scenes.

Administrative Member:

Fire companies depend heavily on the behind-the-scenes administrative personnel of the organization to run the day-to-day operations of the fire companies. Administrative Members perform tasks such as accounting, fundraising, preparing meals for members after meetings or long incidents, community outreach programs, and more. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to get involved with the fire company and give back to the community, but doesn’t necessarily want to be actively entrenched in fire/rescue operations.

Water Rescue:

Whitemarsh Township’s close proximity to the Schuylkill River puts our community at greater risk of flooding and other water-related emergencies.  Spring Mill and Barren Hill Fire Companies provide swift water rescue services in the Whitemarsh Township and to the surrounding areas in the event of water-based emergencies. Our swift water rescue personnel train to perform a variety of rescue techniques in swift, rapidly moving waters.

Diver:

Members of Spring Mill Fire Company’s Public Safety Dive Unit are certified scuba divers specially trained in underwater investigation, search, rescue and recovery skills. Unit members hold diver certifications from the open water level all the way up to the Emergency Response Diving International (ERDI) Emergency Response Diver Technician.

The unit holds designations for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Incident Management System (NIMS). Complying with these national industry standards allows the team to better collaborate with other local rescue dive teams managing above and underwater emergencies.
